Carlsberg Pilsner is the flagship in the Carlsberg Group's portfolio of beers. A regular in millions of bars across 140 countries world wide it is a truly international brand and pilsner beer of exceptional taste and quality.

Taste and ingredients:

Carlsberg Pilsner is a well-proportioned bottom-fermented lager beer with a flavour of hops, grains, pine needles, sorrel and Danish summer apples. The bitterness of the hops and the apple-like sweetness provide a harmoniously balanced taste. Should ideally be enjoyed at 7-10°C.

Carlsberg Pilsner & Food:

Carlsberg Pilsner goes well with Asian foods, buffets, vegetable or fish soups, lightly seasoned fish dishes and in particular roast meat with gravy.

The Carlsberg logo:

Architect Thorvald Bindesboell designed the world famous art nouveau Carlsberg logo for the launch of Carlsberg pilsner in 1904. With the logo, this pioneer in Danish design forever left is mark on Denmark's leading beer maker. He was paid 500 kroner for the design - it was expensive at the time, but it turned out to be money well spent. And like the beer, the award winning logo has stood the test of time, remaining largely unchanged to this very day.

The Carlsberg Yeast:

Without good yeast, you don't get great beer, and Carlsberg's is exceptional. In the late 1800's the head of the Carlsberg Brewing laboratory, Emil Christian Hansen, pioneered a groundbreaking method for propagating pure yeast. His discovery, and the resulting yeast, aptly named "Saccharomyces Carlsbergensis" would revolutionise the brewing industry. In fact, the yeast's effect on the beer was so extraordinary that Carlsberg chose to share the yeast with the world by giving it away to other brewers for free. To this day, whenever and wherever you enjoy a lager, there's probably a little Carlsberg in it.

Carlsberg Elephant is a true Carlsberg classic. First launched in 1959, it is strong like an elephant in both flavour and alcohol content, offering adventurous beer drinkers across the continent a unique and exotic taste experience.

The colour is light golden amber and the foam white as the tip of the waves of the oceans. The ample use of malt gives Elephant a vinous and rich character. The high hop content in Elephant gives a masculine bitter bite to the beer.

The elephants on the beer’s label are inspired by the two pairs of life-size, elephant statues which form part of the main entrance to Carlsberg’s brewery in Copenhagen. The Elephant Gate has become a famous Danish landmark and gives visitors to the brewery a majestic welcome.

Carlsberg Elephant received 3 stars in the prestigious Superior Taste Awards 2006 from the international Taste & Quality Institute (iTQi) in Brussels.
